Resources for Veteran Jobseekers

Veteran Speakers Network (VSN)

EARN’s Veteran Speakers Network (VSN) helps businesses understand how to navigate the various resources available for hiring, retaining, managing and promoting veterans with disabilities. The VSN accomplishes this by speaking at events, conferences and other national speaking engagements.

TAP Workshop Locator – Assists separating and retiring service members with finding TAP Job Searching Workshop locations.

Hire Vets First – Provides veterans seeking employment with resources for matching employment opportunities such as: resume writer (to help write resumes and cover letters), military translator (to help align military experience and training with civilian needs), online job search websites, and other helpful links.

Veterans’ Employment and Training Service offices – Provides information about, and locations for, U.S. Department of Labor employment and training programs for veterans.

Department of Veteran’s Affairs Office Locator – Assists returning soldiers that may need to contact their nearest VA office for services or benefits information. For information call 1-800-327-1000 or visit www.va.gov.

Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) – Provides present information about the services that the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program provides to veterans with service-connected disabilities.

CareerOneStop – The ultimate one-stop site for employers, jobseekers, and employment service providers, and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor. It contains information and resources for government, private sector, and veterans in the areas of career exploration, salary and benefits, education and training, job search, and resumes. OPM Veterans’ Information – Information for job-seeking veterans, veterans currently employed by the federal government and federal human resources specialists. This site will assist individuals when determining a veteran's special rights, privileges for federal civil service employment, or assistance to callers who feel their employment rights have been violated. For information, call 202-606-1800 / TTY 202-606-2532. For more detailed information about special rights and privileges for veterans in federal employment visit VetGuide.

State Employment Agencies – Links to all State Employment Agencies that includes workforce services, job placement and referrals, unemployment insurance, employment and training programs, career and labor market information, payroll tax filing, etc.

Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment – Provides information and assistance to persons experiencing problems with their civilian employment when absent from their jobs in order to serve in the uniformed services and enhanced protection for disabled veterans requiring employers to make reasonable accommodations.

E-VETS Resource Advisor – Assists veterans preparing to enter the job market. It includes information on a broad range of topics, such as job search tools and tips, employment openings, career assessment, education and training, and benefits and special services available to veterans.

MilSpouse.org – Contains a Career Coach that guides military spouses to information based on key problems spouses often face.

The BRAC Coach – Assists workers, businesses, and employment and training services impacted by the recent Base Re-alignment and Closure (BRAC) actions initiated by the Department of Defense.

National Archives and Records Administration – Assists military personnel who have been discharged from the U.S. Air Force, Marines, Army, Navy, or Coast Guard with locating proof of military service, locations of military service records, correcting service records and discharges, and replacement of service medals and awards.

The Veterans Corporation – Business resources for veteran business owners from start-up and beyond.

The MilitaryStars Blog – An online community with shared information and resources to help military veterans who are in transition.

Military Resume Builder – Free online military resume builder specifically designed for military veterans to complete, store, and distribute their resume.

Military Assessment – Free online career assessment that identifies how you best fit in the workplace.

TurboTap – The DoD Transition Assistance Program (TAP) was designed by the Department of Defense to smooth the transition of military personnel (and family members) leaving active duty. TAP is a partnership among DoD, DOL, and VA. Returning to civilian life is an exciting time, but it is also a complex undertaking. The service member has many steps to take, and many questions to get answered. The Transition Assistance Program is there to help.

Key to Career Success – Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor through the CareerOneStop project as part of the department's assistance to service members, military families, employers and the workforce staff serving them. Much of the content in Key to Career Success is based on U.S. Department of Labor-sponsored resources and has been customized to meet the needs of recently separated military personnel.

DoD Military TransPortal – This site is designed specifically to assist service members leaving active duty. While DoD TransPortal contains valuable information and resources, you should use this site as part of a comprehensive program of transition and employment assistance.

VetSuccess – The purpose of this website is to present information about the services that the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program provides to veterans with service-connected disabilities.

National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – Information specific to PTSD and trauma-related disorders in the veteran population.

National Amputation Foundation, Inc. (NAF) – The Foundation sponsors an Amp-to-Amp program. Amputee members of their organization visit new amputees to build morale by sharing experiences about returning to a normal life. NAF provides information and a list of support groups for every state. Individuals can also receive booklets and pamphlets of special interest to the amputees.

Blinded Veterans Association (BVA) – The BVA is an organization of and for blinded veterans. Each year the organization holds a National Convention, which includes educational and informational events, as well as a venue for recently blinded veterans to meet and gain strength from blinded veterans from earlier conflicts. Several services are offered by BVA, including scholarship and field representatives who travel to recently blinded veterans to provide support services.

American Burn Association (ABA) – The ABA is a membership organization of healthcare providers supporting research, education, patient care, and advocacy for burn injury. The site contains advocacy resources, burn prevention information, and professional development opportunities for healthcare professionals such as annual meetings and symposia. In conjunction with the American College of Surgeons, the ABA administers the Burn Center Verification Program, for which burn centers can qualify if they meet strict standards.
